Beverages and candies that should be in your stand

What is the best selling beverage?

I thought it would be fun to do some research on what are the top selling beverages and candies to give you ideas of what you should sell in your concession stand. Let’s start with drinks. Since we are in the concession world, I opted to stay out of the most popular alcoholic drinks! It may come as no surprise that water is still the highest selling beverage. That number may start to look skewed as more venues are moving away from plastics. Here, in Austin, many big festivals are moving to encourage people to bring water bottles and let them fill them for free, which would reduce bottles water sales, but not popularity. My alma mater, University of Colorado has started a zero waste campaign over the past couple of years. These things may change the landscape of bottles sales, but as of today, they still have some good numbers on beverage sales.

Most popular drink by state

This was a lot of fun. I looked several websites, but I found a blog that had a list and description of each state’s most popular beverage. No surprise that Georgia was…. yes, well, of course, Coca Cola. Just in case you were wondering, you would have to go to the cold tundra of Alaska to have Pepsi be the number one drink. Now, this is where the beverages go awry. Texas’ most popular drink, Dr. Pepper. However, after that one, it is a complete list of drinks that I have never heard of in my life. I am sure that the locals are very familiar their number one, but it is a true mystery. I know now what will be on my list as I travel the US in the future! Do you know what sells best in your concessions stand…. I mean really? Blitz Concessions can help fine tune how much and what to sell at your stand, no matter where you are in the country.

One final antidote, the best selling beverage in Nevada is club soda. I am quite sure that people don’t drink that straight

Now on to candies…

By far, the winners of the candy war comes down to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, M & M candies and Snickers. The lines blur a little as you go down the list. Consistently, the candies that show up on multiple list are the above listed candy plus

Hershey Bar, Kit Kat, Twix, Twizzlers, Skittles, 3 Musketeers, Starburst and Milky Way. One article says that in 33 states, mostly west of the Mississippi, favor the Snickers Bar. How does your stand stack up? Gum is often an overlooked treat at the concession stand. Some stadium/events don’t like the idea of where gum ends up, but don’t forget to try it as an option. If you have a problem with people sticking it in the wrong places, you will have to pull it off the shelf.

This is all good trivia, but the question for your concession stand is what are the best beverages and candies for your concession stand? My experience comes from the convenience store industry.
